Sir Michael Rawlins (Chairman, NICE) talks about the role of NICE in medicine today. Beginning with how it was established he explains NICE's role in deciding on the cost-effectiveness and safety of new interventions.

"Michael Rawlins became consultant physician, consultant clinical pharmacologist and Ruth and Lionel Jacobson professor of clinical pharmacology at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, holding these posts from 1973 until 2006. He served as vice-chairman and later as chairman of the committee on Safety of Medicines.
Sir Michael became chairman of the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence at the time of its formation. Even with this enormous workload he lectures and advises around the world, and remains an Honorary Professor of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine"

Thank you for making this video available. I very much enjoyed it. As a technical point, I would have preferred a pop out player as I could not et a high enough volume to hear properly with your embedded player
